Johnny finds himself trapped in this shadow version of his hometown and is now forced to assume the identity of the shadow self that he killed. Faced with little option, he goes “home”, hoping to make the best of things until he can come up with a plan.

Despite the shock from his friends thinking they are seeing a ghost, Johnny tells everyone his “death” was simply a practical joke.

For now, he inhabits the life of his doppelganger. He goes about the daily tasks he knew in his former life, tending the crumbling graves of the dead of this strange realm. This bitter drunkard of a father is in stark contrast to the caring guardian that Johnny had long taken for granted. Johnny finds
himself missing his own father terribly. Wishing he had been a better son. But for now, he steps into this new reality as best he can. However, his efforts soon prove fruitful in building a bridge of understanding with his “father”. The old man begins to warm to Johnny.

Meanwhile, suspicions are growing about Johnny’s true identity. He knows it is only a matter of time before the body is discovered in its shallow makeshift grave. The evidence must disappear if he is to
survive. Under cover of night, Johnny collects the decomposing corpse and reburies it in the family graveyard in secret.
